Ashwood Hoodie

Love of Knitting Fall 2017 has just come out & guess what’s on the cover?? My cardigan, Ashwood Hoodie!!! If you look very, very close …. nope, closer than that….. you can see my name right there on the cover. Woo-Hoo!! (Happy dance 🙂 )

_Cover LOK Fall 2017

So, it’s time to break out your needles and get cracking on fall knitting.  Knit Picks City Tweed DK in Desert Sage was used for this sample in size 36″.  It’s a lovely soft wool, alpaca & tweed blend which offers the added spark of tweed while maintaining excellent stitch definition.

Usually my designs are more complicated. But the simplicity of this sweater actually made it a relaxing treat. A running leaf framed in a cabled diamond runs up the front, over the hood and up each sleeve of this sweater. Slipped stitches run along each side of the leaf. The remainder of the sweater is worked in reverse stockinette stitch for textural contrast.

A 4” vent at the hips offers a flattering fit. The slipped stitch and garter stitch placket prevents the front placket from waffling.

The sleeve runs up into a saddle shoulder — an attractive design feature which is easier than it looks. The hood (I just love hoods!) is picked up around the neckline and grafted or seamed shut.

Add your Ashwood Hoodie to the project page here in Ravelry. I’d love to see your work!!

Aurelia Stole

Pattern $4.99

Knit Picks  has produced yet another gorgeous collection of lovely knits!  Joyful Lace has 13 beautiful lace pieces including shawls, stoles and wraps.  Aurelia stole is my contribution and I had such fun designing it.

(Is this model a Radiant Beauty, or what?!!)

Aurelia is knitted flat and has a constant stitch count, which means it is a good project if you are new to lace knitting.  The leaf patterns are designed to alternate between flowing up and flowing down, so there is no upside-down to the piece as you wear it.  The lace edging is knitted on at the last, making this a seamless project.  Knit Picks Shadow Lace Yarn was used for this sample and it is heavenly to work with.  Soft and heathered, the delicate blend of colors is delightful.  Opal Heather was used which is actually a pale, dusty blue with subtle flecks of purple.

Rhiannon — A Classic Aran Sweater

Rhiannon, Celtic for “Divine Queen”, is a cable-lover’s dream.  Emblazoned with diamonds for her majesty, this pullover is fit for a queen and for you!  Part of Knit Picks’ latest stunning collection, Celtic Journey, Rhiannon is one of 8 cabled creations.

The cable panel features a dominant repeating diamond, each embedded with a Celtic braid.  Supporting cables include 4st twists flanked by seed st ladders, smaller diamonds with centered wrapped sts (easier than bobbles), bordered on the outer edges by a 2st twist.  Various sizes are achieved by repeating the supporting cables and widening side sections proportionately.

Worked from the bottom up, vents at the sides and positive ease provide a flattering fit for all sizes.  I chose a modest V-neck collar for it’s comfort and versatility; a top underneath can change the look entirely.  Worked in Knit Picks Swish DK in Lost Lake Heather, this sweater is as comfortable to wear, as it is fun to knit :).

Transitions Boot Cuffs

Are you bored with what’s on your needles?  Need a fresh project to get your year started?  Knit Picks has the answer with their new collection: Petite Presents — a knitter’s stashbusting dream!  30, count ’em, 30 colorful, fun projects that you will actually be happy to make & give as gifts ….. or keep!  From cowls to cozies, socks to scarves, mittens, hats and shawls galore.  Even a clock!  Then there is my personal favorite, the Mini Kitty Poufway too cute.

In Shades of Brown

I designed the Transitions Boot Cuffs using 5 colors arranged from lightest to darkest.  Knit in the round, they are stranded, using only 2 colors at a time.  A Latvian braid finishes off this boot topper.  Jazz up any outfit or just shrug off the winter doldrums.

Petite Presents is available through Knit Picks as a high quality paperback or downloadable eBook, or each pattern is available separately.  Currently priced at $14.99, that’s just 50 cents a pattern!

In Pink, Black & Shades of Gray

The cuffs are knit using Knit Picks Palette which is a 100% Peruvian Highland Wool in fingering weight, available in 150 Colors!  For the brown cuff, I used Grizzly Heather, Rooiboos Heather, Lynx Heather, Wheat Heather and Coriander Heather.  The Pink cuff uses Asphalt, Ash, Cosmopolitan, Silver and Cream.

Find out more about each design on the collection page in Ravelry.
